Europe - Regulators Put Google (NASDAQ:GOOG), Motorola (NYSE:MMI) Merger Review on Hold

Uploaded by on Dec 12, 2011
European regulators have temporarily stopped their review of Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) proposed acquisition of Motorola Mobility (NYSE:MMI) in an effort to gain more information about the deal before making a ruling, Bloomberg reports.

The European Commission had originally looked to make a decision by January 10, but the review was halted on December 6. A Google spokesperson says the EU's request for more information is "routine".

Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) has potential upside of 17.5% based on a current price of $621.49 and an average consensus analyst price target of $730.3.

Iran - US angered as Tehran blocks 'virtual embassy' launched last week by US State Department

Uploaded by on Dec 12, 2011
Last week the US state department launched a "virtual embassy" website, but within hours, the Iranian government blocked it to domestic users.

The US says it aims to offer information and foster dialogue with Iranian citizens - but an Iranian spokesman said it was an admission that the US authorities had made "a mistake in turning their back on the Iranian people".

The US embassy in Tehran was closed in 1979 when militants stormed the premises and seized dozens of American hostages.

Karen Zarindast reports.

USA - NY Times Investigation Claims Corzine was Personally Hand on with MF Global Trading

Uploaded by on Dec 12, 2011
According to a NY Times investigation, the former CEO of MF Global, Jon Corzine personally pushed through a $6.3B bet on European debt. From the investigation, it appears that former Governor Corzine has a gambling problem and "played a much larger, hands-on role in the firm's high-stakes risk-taking than has previously been known."

Corzine was even known to trade using his blackberry and often left meetings to check the markets. Unusual for CEO's Corzine was part of a group that traded the firms money.

Corzine stated at last week's Senate hearing that, "As of today, none of the foreign debt securities that MF Global used has defaulted or been restructured. There actually were no losses."

While technically true the Times also noted that about $1B is still missing for many of MF Global's clients.

Russell Grant's Daily Horoscopes for Tuesday 13th December 2011

.
.
Aries (Mar21/Apr20) All you want is a little privacy, but it will be hard to come by. One of your superiors needs your help, and won't think twice about interrupting your reverie. Unfortunately, you're not in the position to turn your boss away. Bite the bullet and come to their aid. Set aside some time later in the week when you can recharge your batteries. Even a dynamo like you needs some occasional down time. Fortunately, your family respects your need for freedom.
  .
Taurus (Apr21/May21) It's hard to keep calm when everyone around you is wearing on your last nerve. You've got to head off somewhere nice and quiet, where you can hear yourself think. A vivid idea for a creative project will arrive while you're busy with routine work. Be sure to jot down this concept in great detail, or it will vanish into thin air. A well meaning neighbour will invite you to worship services with the intention of converting you. Be ready to decline politely.
  .
Gemini (May22/Jun21) Keep a tight control on your spending. This isn't a good time to go on a shopping spree. A friend who loves to engage in retail therapy will invite you along to the shops. Going along will just put you in the path of temptation. You're better off channelling your energy into finding another moneymaking opportunity. Work involving childcare, domestic goods, or property is especially favoured. Even a part time position can be lucrative. Emphasise your sales abilities during an interview.
  .
Cancer (Jun22/Jul23) Getting control of your emotions will be an exercise in futility. You're tired of working your fingers to the bone, only to be taken for granted. When this happens, you have no other choice but to change gear. Put the emphasis on yourself, instead of those you love. Buy yourself some gorgeous status symbol that's caught your eye. Don't worry about the expense. Sometimes you must make an investment in your own happiness. If anybody finds fault with your methods, that's just too bad.
  .
Leo (Jul24/Aug23) An embarrassing secret comes to light, thanks to an indiscreet colleague. It just goes to show you should never discuss your private life with colleagues. If you have had difficulty getting some government paperwork pushed through, it could be because you've offended a bureaucrat. You've got to keep your temper when you deal with pencil pushers, or your application will keep getting shuffled to the bottom of the pile. An unexpected opportunity to go on a trip will fall in your lap. Grab it!
  .
Virgo (Aug24/Sep23) Working with a group is undermining your confidence. You're tired of having your creative touches revised or cut altogether. You are blessed with an inventive imagination. Most people are threatened by your innovative ways. Therefore, you have to find a hobby outside of work. That way, you can continue to hone your talent without fear of being censored. An unexpected refund allows you to afford something you've wanted for ages. Go ahead and splash out.
  .
Libra (Sep24/Oct23) It's hard to make a good impression when you're mourning a loss. Still, you've got to put your personal troubles aside for the sake of something larger. By showcasing your wit, talent, and sophistication, you'll be offered an impressive job. Pretty soon, you'll be so busy learning the ropes you won't have time to dwell on your heartache. If you run a business, hire a technical expert. You can no longer afford to troubleshoot problems all by yourself. You've got bigger fish to fry.
  .
Scorpio (Oct24/Nov22) Fulfilling your potential is difficult when nobody appreciates you. If you're going to impress the powers that be, you'll need some official documentation. It doesn't matter how many years of experience you have; until you get a diploma or certificate, you'll always be second tier. Fortunately, you will be given a job with unorthodox hours, which will allow you to go to school part time. By taking advantage of the cards you've been dealt, you'll improve your career prospects. It's just a matter of staying focused.
  .
Sagittarius (Nov23/Dec21) It hurts your feelings when a loved one has no time for you. Rather than trying to get their attention, go off and have some fun on your own. You have tons of friends; one or two of them will be happy to accompany you on a road trip. You're never sexier than when you're having fun. Once your amour sees how desirable you really are, they'll stop pouring all of their energy into work. By that time you may have moved on to greener pastures.
  .
Capricorn (Dec22/Jan20) An intimate relationship is verging on co-dependency. You've got to assert your freedom, even at the risk of starting a fight. Someone with your executive ability needs a stimulating challenge. Building something of lasting use or beauty is as essential as breathing for you. If you're bored, join a civic organisation. This will take the pressure off your nearest and dearest, while allowing you to hone your talent. It's a win-win situation. Stop feeling pressured to cancel your plans for a needy friend or lover.
  .
Aquarius (Jan21/Feb19) Your health is quite delicate. It's important to get enough sleep and eat nutritious meals. If you don't, you'll be forced to meet a deadline while battling a cold. Why cause trouble for yourself? Back out of a social obligation and go straight home. Pull down the blinds and turn off your mobile. Don't get sucked into a family drama. Your emotional health is directly related to your physical wellbeing. If you spend all of your time arguing with relatives, you’ll get stressed out..
  .
Pisces (Feb20/Mar20) Having fun is interfering with your responsibilities. It's hard to tear yourself away from an attentive lover, but try anyway. A friend needs your help finding a job, changing residences, or running errands. The sooner you go up a gear, the better. Don't be surprised when someone offers you a job after witnessing your generous spirit. These days, it's hard to find someone who is willing to sacrifice for loved ones. Fortunately, your generosity is deep and abiding.
